Louisiana Bankers Education Council

The mission of the Louisiana Bankers Education Council is to facilitate banker development and promote financial literacy outreach to Louisiana bankers by:

  • Elementary school financial literacy education, i.e. Bank-at-School
  • High school financial literacy education, i.e. Simply Banking, 365 to Rich
  • College Freshman Scholarships
  • Louisiana JumpStart Coalition – partnering with others to promote financial literacy throughout Louisiana
  • Education for emerging leaders, i.e. Leadership School
  • Manage the Louisiana Bankers Patrick Spencer/FISC Education Foundation which funds the above programs

College Freshman Scholarships

LBEC offers $1,000 cash scholarships to incoming freshmen who have at least one parent employed with a bank in Louisiana or are themselves an employee of a bank in Louisiana. The student must enroll in an accredited Louisiana college or university with a declared major in a banking related field.

Louisiana Young Bankers Impact Award

To qualify, the banker must be 45 years or younger with a minimum of 5 years in banking and made significant contributions to their bank and/or the banking industry. The nominee must work for an LBA member bank. Up to five young bankers will be recognized.

Officers & Council Members

Each year at the annual conference, a new slate of officers and council members are elected by the conference attendees to serve for the upcoming year.

365 to Rich Bank Shadow Program

365 to Rich Bank Day is a great program for high school seniors to spend a day shadowing a banker.  The last two weeks of October are designated as the time frame for the 365 to Rich Bank Day.  The purpose is to introduce banking as a career option and to provide financial literacy resources to the student.

LBEC Ambassadors

As an extension of the Louisiana Bankers Education Council, LBEC Ambassadors will promote financial literacy and support future banker development. Ambassadors are LBA member bank employees who want to network with Louisiana bankers and be involved in the Louisiana banking industry. 

Bank-at-School Program
Since 1994, LBEC and the State Treasurer's Office has co-sponsored and organized an educational program where banks assist elementary schools promote financial education throughout the state.

Simply Banking
Simply Banking is the banking study guide designed for high school and middle school students. There is a teacher version with benchmarks, and a separate student version. Both are PDF files that easily download in minutes.

LBA Leadership School  

The LBA Leadership School is growing our next generation of leaders. Each participant completes the Hogan Management Assessment prior to the start of the program and receives a one-on-one coaching session with a leadership development facilitator.

Louisiana JumpStart Coalition
The Louisiana Bankers Education Council has joined forces with Louisiana JumpStart which is a coalition of organizations dedicated to improving the financial capability of individuals by providing advocacy and access to financial education programs and resources.
